The Northern Regional Police Command has commenced investigations into the deaths of three children whose bodies were discovered in the boot of a vehicle at Koblimahagu Zoo in the Tamale Metropolis of the Northern Region.

The deceased have been identified as Dauda Abdul Aziz, 3; Saani Alsharaf, 5; and Dauda Fadilan, 7.

According to the Police, the children allegedly left home at about 8:00am on Sunday, October 4, 2026, to attend Islamic classes but failed to return home. Efforts by community members to locate them reportedly proved unsuccessful until about 5:00am on Monday, October 5, when their bodies were found inside the boot of a black Hyundai Tucson with registration number AS 1770-14.

Police officers who visited the scene found the vehicle stuck in mud on a road leading to the area. A preliminary inspection showed that the driver’s door and the rear passenger door behind the driver’s seat were open, while the other doors, including the boot, were locked.

The Police said preliminary investigations indicate that the vehicle belongs to a member of the Ghana Immigration Service, who reportedly told investigators that the vehicle had been stuck in the mud for about five days. He has since been arrested and is being taken to Accra to assist with the investigation.

The Inspector-General of Police has also deployed a special team comprising homicide investigators, crime scene experts and intelligence officers to Tamale to support the Northern Regional Police Command.

The vehicle has been secured for further forensic examination, while the autopsy and ongoing investigations are expected to provide more information on the circumstances surrounding the deaths.

The Police have assured the public that all necessary investigative steps are being taken to establish what led to the deaths of the three children and have urged the public to remain calm as investigations continue.

The Command says any further developments will be communicated to the public.
