Ghanaian musician Stay Jay is perhaps one of the most-paid artists on the records of the Ghana Music Rights Organization if his recent utterance in an interview with Accra-based Onua FM is anything to go by.

According to the musician, he receives nothing less than 20,000 cedis a month in royalties from GHAMRO, the royalty collection society he is registered to.

In an interview with DJ Willie monitored by Nydjlive, the Shashe Wowo and Sue hitmaker revealed he receives what is rightfully due him from the organization.

“GHAMRO pays me very well. If you’re registered with GHAMRO, they are going to work for you. They pay me nothing less than 20,000 a month. One just needs to authorize them to work on your behalf,” he said.

Asked if his utterances were not mere puffs, the musician affirmed his stand saying the least he would do was to lie about such information.

The revelation seems shocking to many, especially as a lot of Ghanaian musicians, both aged and young, continue to cry over what they describe as a terrible royalty system which pays them just a token for their creative materials.
