A student of the University of Cape Coast (UCC) who was reported missing has been found dead at Hutchland Beach near Duakor in the Cape Coast Metropolis.
The deceased, identified as Innocentia Atsufui Avinu, a Level 200 Bachelor of Commerce (Human Resource) student, was last seen on the evening of June 10, 2026. According to information provided by her roommate, she left their hostel room after receiving a phone call and did not return, prompting friends and colleagues to launch a search for her.
Her body was later discovered washed ashore at Hutchland Beach on the morning of June 12. Police officers who responded to the scene reported that no visible signs of physical injury were found during a preliminary examination.
The body was subsequently conveyed to the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital mortuary, where family members later confirmed her identity.
The UCC Police say investigations are ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding her death. A post-mortem examination is expected to be conducted to determine the exact cause of death.
Authorities have urged the public to refrain from spreading unverified information as investigations continue. Meanwhile, the University has extended its condolences and support to the bereaved family, friends, and the wider university community.
