Veteran Senegalese-American singer, Aliaune Damala Badara Akon Thiam, known mononymously as Akon, has revealed that he is a huge fan of sensational Ghanaian artiste Black Sherif.
When asked on BBC Radio 1Xtra about other artistes he see on the African continent who are doing extremely well, the Konvict Musik boss replied, ” I’m a huge fan of Black Sherif right now, i think, i think he, maybe because he just reminded me of the energy of myself when i came out”.
According to Akon, he was in New York City when his friend from Mali played Black Sherif’s song and he was amazed after listening.
“You can feel the pain, you feel the struggle, you hear the challenges, but you can just hear a ghetto kid just wanting to get out. Like it’s just, it’s the way he says it, like you know it’s real, it’s nothing that’s fabricated. You know what i’m saying ? you feel that especially if you been that, you understand ?”
“He is a beast, that boy right there is a monster, he is the voice of the youth in Africa”, Akon added.
The lonely crooner also sent a warning to major record labels to get Black Sherif before he does.
