The Ashanti South Regional Police Command has forwarded the case docket involving Obuasi Senior High Technical School (SHTS) headmaster, Zakaria Abdulai, to the Attorney-General’s Office for advice following investigations into an alleged rape case involving a 20-year-old student.

In a press release dated October 16, 2026, the police said the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) in Bekwai had completed the necessary investigative processes and forwarded the docket for further review and advice.

The case comes amid wider allegations of sexual misconduct against the headmaster, with reports indicating that 19 students have accused him of such conduct. The Ghana Education Service has also interdicted him pending further investigations.

According to the police, the student, a Form Two pupil at Obuasi SHTS, lodged a complaint at the Obuasi DOVVSU office on August 4, 2026, accompanied by her father.

She alleged that on July 25, 2026, the headmaster forcibly had sexual intercourse with her at his official bungalow on the school’s campus.

The police statement said the student had gone to an area near the headmaster’s residence where students dry their clothes to retrieve her dresses when he allegedly asked her to enter his residence to run an errand for him.

She further alleged that after entering the residence, the headmaster began touching her against her will before dragging her into his bedroom and sexually assaulting her despite her resistance.

The statement added that she was allegedly given GH¢100 after the incident and told to keep quiet.

Police said investigations included a medical examination, reconstruction of the scene, photographs and witness statements.

The docket has since been forwarded to the Attorney-General’s Office for advice and the necessary action. The allegations against the headmaster have not been established in court.
