Former Dome-Kwabenya Member of Parliament and former Deputy Majority Leader Sarah Adwoa Safo has announced her intention to contest the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) parliamentary primaries in the constituency, reversing her earlier decision to pursue opportunities beyond Dome-Kwabenya.

In a statement addressed to party members, constituents and the Ghanaian public, the former legislator said her decision followed considerable reflection, extensive consultations and broad-based engagements with party leadership and executives.

She explained that her decision was driven by her enduring commitment to the people of Dome-Kwabenya and her conviction that she still had more to contribute to the constituency’s development.

Adwoa Safo said she would present herself for consideration as the NPP’s parliamentary candidate when the party announces the timetable and guidelines for its parliamentary primaries.

“After considerable reflection, extensive consultation and broad-based engagement with party leadership and executives, and guided by my own conviction and unwavering loyalty to the principles and values of our political tradition, I formally announce my intention to once again present myself for consideration as the New Patriotic Party’s Parliamentary Candidate for the Dome-Kwabenya Constituency,” she stated.

The former MP disclosed that she had previously indicated her intention to pursue opportunities beyond the constituency but had reconsidered after deeper reflection.

She described her relationship with the people of Dome-Kwabenya as one built on years of shared experiences, dedicated service, sacrifice and a common aspiration to develop the constituency.

Reflecting on her 12 years in Parliament, Adwoa Safo said she had worked with residents, party members, community and religious leaders, and other stakeholders to address developmental challenges and deliver tangible progress.

She described Dome-Kwabenya as one of Ghana’s fastest-growing constituencies, noting that its growth presented significant opportunities alongside considerable developmental challenges.

While acknowledging that much remained to be done, she reaffirmed her commitment to building on the progress made during her tenure and working towards a better future for residents.

Adwoa Safo also highlighted the NPP’s electoral performance in Dome-Kwabenya, stating that the party’s votes increased from an inherited base of about 35,000 to 63,373 in 2012, 65,488 in 2016 and 75,041 in 2020.

She attributed the figures to the collective efforts, hard work, sacrifices and commitment of party members, supporters and constituents who believed in their shared vision for the constituency.

Emphasising the importance of unity within the NPP, the former legislator said the party’s strength lay in its shared values and collective willingness to work together towards common goals.

She expressed her desire to continue serving the constituency by creating opportunities for young people, supporting families and ensuring that the concerns of ordinary residents receive the attention they deserve.

Adwoa Safo also invited party members, stakeholders and constituents to engage with her in open and respectful discussions about the future of Dome-Kwabenya and the leadership required to drive its next phase of growth and development.

Her announcement sets the stage for a potential contest for the NPP parliamentary candidacy in Dome-Kwabenya when the party opens its selection process.

Concluding her statement, the former MP reaffirmed her attachment to the constituency and her determination to continue serving its people.

“Dome-Kwabenya is home. It has always been home. My commitment to its people remains unwavering, and my resolve to serve remains steadfast,” she said.
