Former Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has won the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential primary to lead the party to the 2028 general elections.
He polled 110,643 votes, representing 56.48 per cent out of the total valid votes cast, Mr Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, former Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin Central, garnered 46,554 votes, representing 23.76 per cent to place second.
Dr Bryan Acheampong, came third with 36,303 votes, equivalent to 18.53 per cent, followed by Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum in fourth place with 1,999 votes, representing 1.02 per cent.
Mr Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, a former General Secretary of the party, came fifth with 402 votes, representing 0.21 per cent.
The Electoral Commission(EC) officials announced that a total of 196,462 votes were cast nationwide, out of which 561 ballots were rejected.
Over 211,000 delegates across the country voted at 333 polling centres in all 275 constituencies in what is believed to be one of the most important internal exercises since its defeat in the 2024 general elections.
Prior to the election, the five aspirants signed a peace pact committing to accept the results of the primary and to uphold unity within the party regardless of the outcome.
