The Parliament of Ghana has confirmed that the Member of Parliament for Asante Akyem North, Kwame Oheneba Frimpong, has been detained in the Netherlands.
In a statement issued on Monday, Parliament said the MP was detained at Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam.
“It has come to the attention of Parliament that the Member of Parliament for Asante Akyem North Constituency, Mr Kwame Oheneba Frimpong, has been detained at Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam, the Netherlands,” the statement said.
Parliament added that the Speaker and the leadership of the House were in contact with Ghana’s Mission in The Hague to obtain further details on the matter.
“The public will be duly informed on this matter,” the statement added.
No official reason for the detention has yet been disclosed.
The statement was signed by the Clerk to Parliament, Ebenezer Ahumah Djietror.
