The Ghana Education Service (GES) has expressed “profound sorrow” following the deaths of two Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) candidates in a road accident.

In a statement issued from its headquarters in Accra on 5 May 2026, the GES said the victims, identified as Taufii Ibrahim and Abdul Khalid, were students of Charia Roman Catholic Junior High School in the Upper West Region.

According to the statement, the two candidates lost their lives in a crash on Sunday, 3 May, while travelling to join their colleagues ahead of the commencement of the BECE.

The Service described the incident as “deeply saddening”, noting that the young lives had been “cut short under such distressing circumstances”.

GES extended its condolences to the bereaved families, the school community and all those affected. It added that its thoughts and prayers are with them during this difficult period.

The Service also called on the appropriate authorities to conduct a full investigation into the incident and to take steps to prevent similar occurrences in the future.

It concluded by wishing the departed students “perfect peace.”
