The Adabraka District Court has remanded into custody Abraham Newton Awundok, a security guard accused of murdering a medical doctor and his wife at Asylum Down in Accra.
Awundok made his second appearance before the court, where he was remanded to assist with further proceedings.
According to the prosecution, Awundok allegedly killed Dr. Jesse Amuah and his wife, Mrs Elizabeth Esi Amuah, on March 23, 2026, and concealed their bodies in a septic tank before fleeing to Dubai.
He was subsequently arrested through investigations involving the Ghana Police Service and INTERPOL.
Awundok is reported to have admitted to the killings, stating that he acted out of anger following alleged insults directed at him by Mrs Amuah. He is also said to have pleaded for forgiveness.
Awundok has been charged with two counts of murder, but his plea has not yet been taken.
The case has been adjourned to October 2, 2026, as the trial judge is currently on leave.
Relatives of the deceased who thronged the court on Monday, September 22, reportedly expressed anger towards Awundok as he was escorted into the court premises by armed police personnel.
