Private commercial road transport operators are to increase fares by eight per cent from Saturday, September 26, 2026.
The decision follows an agreement reached between transport unions and the government after weeks of consultations over the 2026 fare review.
The consultations involved the Ministry of Transport, the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) and the Ghana Road Transport Coordinating Council (GRTCC).
The GPRTU had initially proposed a higher increase, with the union previously putting forward a 30 per cent adjustment, citing rising operational costs.
The final eight per cent adjustment was reached following the consultations and review of various cost inputs affecting commercial transport operators.
The new fares will apply to trotros, shared taxis and other commercial public transport services from September 26.
