Accra, June 19, 2026 – The Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has appointed former Majority Leader, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, as Chief of Staff in a restructuring of his office ahead of the 2028 general election.

The appointment places Mr Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu at the centre of the reorganised office, where he is expected to coordinate operational activities and support the implementation of the flagbearer’s political and administrative agenda.

The restructuring forms part of efforts by Dr Bawumia to strengthen his political organisation and position the party for future electoral contests following the NPP’s defeat in the 2024 general election.

Mr Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, a former Minister for Parliamentary Affairs and seven-term Member of Parliament for Suame, is regarded as one of the party’s most experienced political figures, having served in various leadership positions in Parliament over the years.

Political observers believe his extensive legislative experience, party network and institutional knowledge will contribute significantly to the operations of the restructured office.

The appointment is expected to reinforce coordination within Dr Bawumia’s political team as preparations towards the 2028 elections gather momentum.
