The Tokyo 2020 Olympics which has been postponed by one year due to the coronavirus pandemic could start in July 2021. 

Last Tuesday, the International Olympic Committee and Japanese organizers agreed to postpone the Games to 2021 but left the new date in question. 

The 2020 Olympics was initially set to start on Friday, July 24, and end on Sunday, August 9, before it was postponed to 2021.


The I.O.C. said a final decision could come in weeks, but according to insiders, who spoke on condition of anonymity because of guidance issued by the I.O.C., the organisers are considering to kick off the opening ceremony of the games on July 23.


Japanese state broadcaster NHK also reported July 23, 2021, date as the new target.

Meanwhile, the organisers are expected to hold an emergency meeting in the coming days to make their decision official.
