The Ashanti Regional Police Command has arrested a 19-year-old suspect following a swift response by the Asokore Mampong Night Patrol Team at Asabi in Kumasi.
According to a press release issued by the Regional Police Headquarters on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, the patrol team received information at about 12:20 a.m. on July 21 that a male adult had been attacked, robbed of his mobile phone, and left unconscious near the Presbyterian Church at Asabi.
The team immediately proceeded to the scene, where the suspect allegedly attempted to flee upon seeing the officers. He reportedly ran into an uncompleted building but was pursued and arrested.
The suspect has been identified as Ahmed Mustapha, 19. A search conducted on him led to the retrieval of the complainant’s mobile phone and a machete believed to have been used in the attack. Both items have been retained as exhibits.
The victim sustained machete wounds to the forehead, neck, and left hand and was rushed to the KNUST Hospital for medical treatment.
The suspect remains in Police custody and is assisting with investigations.
The Command further disclosed that officers visited the victim at the hospital at about 5:30 a.m. on the same day and found him conscious and in a stable condition. He continues to receive medical care under observation.
The Ashanti Regional Police Command commended the prompt response of the patrol team and reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring public safety and combating violent crime in the region.
