The Ghana Police Service in the Eastern Region has rescued a nine-year-old girl who was allegedly abducted and arrested a 36-year-old female suspect at Accra International Airport.
According to a statement from the Eastern Regional Police Public Affairs Unit, the suspect, identified as Regina Mamle Tawiah, was apprehended on Monday, 20 April 2026, at the airport with the victim.
Police say the case was first reported on Sunday, 19 April, when the girl’s father lodged a complaint with the Odumase-Krobo District Command, stating that his daughter had left home and failed to return.
Following investigations and intelligence gathering, officers, with support from BNI personnel, tracked the suspect to the airport, where the child was rescued.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect was attempting to send the child to Kenya.
The victim has since been reunited with her father.
The suspect has been arraigned before the Odumase-Krobo Circuit Court, where she pleaded not guilty. She has been remanded into police custody and is expected to reappear on 5 May 2026 for a case management conference.
Meanwhile, the Eastern Regional Police Command is urging the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the police.
